Summer Essentials

Summer is here and it’s important to take care of yourself throughout the sunshine, relaxation, and fun. Today I’m sharing with y’all my summer essentials. Hover over the images to see how much they are!

cactus patch hat| eat, beach, shop hat | light blue pom-pom floppy hat

  1. Hat
-I’m not normally a hat person but I recently purchased a floppy hat and it allows me to better protect my face even though sometimes I get quite hot anyway.

IMG-sunglasses2. Sunglasses
-I don’t know if any of you have this problem but since I have such big cheeks/high cheekbones, it’s important for me to find sunglasses with a nose pad or if I smile, my sunglasses will rise higher and it looks off.

insulated tumbler | rose gold sequin tumbler | sip by swell insulated bottle
3. Water Bottle

-If you’re going to be out in the heat, it’s a great idea to carry around a water bottle to keep yourself hydrated. There are so many out there but I tend to go for the ones that keep my water cooler for longer since I love cold water.

4. Sunscreen
-I know this is a given but it’s incredibly important to take care of your skin. I’ll admit that I’m terrible about applying it but when I know I’ll be out for long periods of time, I make sure to put it on. I use one that my dermatologist recommends but I’m guilty of not using it all the time because it makes me feel sticky sometimes.

wedge sandals | tory burch flip flops | lace up pom-pom sandals | lace up brown sandals
5. Comfortable sandals
-Personally, I don’t like wearing closed toed shoes in the summer unless I really have to so it’s important that I have cute and comfy sandals. I used to wear Jandals for pretty much everything but personally, I don’t feel like I can pull it off like some people can.

Those are my summer essentials! What are yours?

24 things I learned by 24

It’s my birthday! I can’t believe it’s finally July 10th! My Jordan year is finally over. I don’t feel any different. Today I’m sharing twenty-four things I’ve learned by 24 into categories to make it easier to read. In no particular order, here we go.

Self-Care

1. Spend time with yourself. This can be anything – watching TV, going to get your nails done, etc.

2. Wake up early. It’s such a great feeling to wake up early and being super productive.

3. Take care of your body. That can mean eating healthy or working out.

4. Always take off your makeup.

5. Invest in good bras and foundation.

Family/Friends

6. Value your relationships with your friends and family. Spend as much time with them as you can. I wish I spent more time with my grandma before she passed away. I chalked it up to our language barrier and I should have put more of an effort.

Life Advice
7. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. For me, this was joining a sorority. I thought I wouldn’t fit in or they wouldn’t like me.

8. Don’t compare yourself to others. It is INCREDIBLY easy to do this in our society today. I used to struggle with this A LOT when I was younger. I’d compare myself to my smarter, godlier friends.

9. Don’t be afraid to ask. The worst that can happen is no.

10. Wear sunscreen.

11. Take as many pictures as you can. I typically take a lot of pictures/videos of my nieces because they’re super cute and hilarious. And I know they won’t stay small forever.

12. Put away your phone from time to time. It’s important to be present.

13. Always go to the restroom. TMI I know, but my dad always taught me to do so if I have a chance. You may get stuck in traffic and it’ll suck.

14. If you feel like a friend is toxic or bringing you down, it’s okay to faze them out. Being around certain people can bring out the worst in you sometimes.

15. Be grateful. Some people don’t have it as well as you do. Also, don’t take your close friends for granted.

16. Don’t compromise your beliefs.

School
17. Take advantage of the “free” gym at your school. You’re paying for it with your tuition so you might as well use it.

18. Go to office hours and befriend your teachers! For the most part, they want to help you and they can’t if you don’t go to them.

Godly
19. Give it to God and go to sleep. When I’m overthinking or worrying about something, I try to remind myself of this.

20. Try your best and God will do the rest. Life is hard. Things don’t always turn out the way we’d like. I’m in the season of trying to a find a job and where everything is seemingly uncertain. Sometimes an interview won’t go well or a test wouldn’t turn as well as I’d like but it’s okay.

21. God gives us opportunities to practice the Gospel every day. When I learned this in Sunday school, my mind was blown. I constantly ask for opportunities to be a light to people around me. This may be dealing with a difficult person – practicing patience or practicing self-control.

22. Jesus is bigger and better than anything we think we can accomplish alone. Sometimes I have a hard time trusting God will take care of me in all aspects but I know He will in His timing.

23. Be more of a Mary and less like a Martha. Luke 10:41-42 tells a story about two girls named Martha and Mary. Martha invites Jesus into her house and during this time, she is frazzled by all the preparations and Mary is sat at his feet listening. Worldly things upset Martha and she focused on those things but she’s reminded that she just needs one thing. That needs to be Jesus. I’m trying to focus on Christ rather than things of the world that don’t matter.

24. Spend more time with the Lord. He has so much to teach you. At small group, we were all asked how our spiritual life was. It made me reflect and realize I don’t spend enough time with God.

Welp, there’s twenty-four. I hope you all have a great day!

5 Tips for Getting an Internship

Happy March!

I feel like March is around the time where people (should) start looking for internships for summer. I’ve had some experience with internships so I thought I’d share with yall my tips!

  1. Join an organization for your major!
I joined an organization for my major and at one of our mixers with the professionals, one of the professionals told us that he was looking for interns at his company and I had a resume on hand and I handed it to him and also emailed it to him. Eventually it led to email back and I got the internship.
  2. Pay attention to things in your major.
Cathy, our support specialist for our department, posts about different internships on social media, emails us and physically posts it outside her office.
  3. Intern Queen!
You can search for different internships and upload your cv and a resume upon it.
  4. LinkedIn.
You can create job alerts for different jobs/majors and get them emailed to you.
  5. NETWORK!
Everyone always says “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know” which is totally true.

Happy hunting!
